Happy April! (Even though we’re already close to May – time is flyin’ over here!). Spring is in the air, and even though it’s been an interesting time given the state of the world, I have at least had the chance to try out some new cruelty free products! Here are some of my most recent faves:
Olaplex No.6 Bond Smoother
What is it? The Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother is a “leave-in reparative styling cream that eliminates frizz, hydrates, and protects all hair types.”
Why do I love it? It does exactly what it advertises! I’ve been blessed with frizzy, dry hair and am always on the lookout for hair products that help combat this. Olaplex No.6 was recommended to me by countless people so, I finally bit the bullet and am loving it! The good news is you only need the tiniest amount for it to work wonders. I wait until my hair is 90% dry then put a very very small amount in, focusing on my ends.
Schmidt's Rose + Vanilla Natural Deodorant
What is it? This deodorant “helps neutralize odor and keep you fresh, enriched with magnesium.”
Why do I love it? I feel like trying to find the perfect cruelty free deodorant is a tale as old as time (lol!). I’ve said before (and if you go to that blog post, I also say “I’ve said before”!) that finding a good, effective natural deodorant is tough. I’ve gone through itchy options, ones that give me an actual rash, ones that made me stink (literally)…but I’ve found some great ones recently!
The Rose + Vanilla deodorant from Schmidt’s is another one that was recommended multiple times. I tried it for a few months before writing this because I wanted to make sure that it didn’t cause any of the reactions I mentioned above (itchy, rash, stink…) – and I can confidently say I’ll be sticking with this one for the foreseeable future! It smells great and it works (read: doesn’t make me stink or cause redness).
Wotnot Natural Face Wipes
What is it? These natural face wipes “gently remove impurities, make-up, even waterproof mascara.”
Why do I love it? I’m not wearing too much makeup since I’ve been working from home for over a month now, but that doesn’t mean these wipes aren’t getting used! They are very soft (“extra soft,” just like the label says), and I can tell it’s helping to remove impurities without leaving my face feeling oily. In fact, my skin usually feels softer and more nourished after using these!
Where can you buy it? I found a pack of these wipes at TJ Maxx but you can order online directly from Wotnot.
Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder
What is it? This setting powder is “an ultra-refined loose powder designed to give skin a naturally flawless-looking finish.”
Why do I love it? I started testing this setting powder out when I was looking for products to use for my wedding day. So, obviously, I needed something that will really finish off my makeup without caking or making my often-dry skin appear even drier. After trying out a couple other options, I think this one will become my “holy grail!”
*Hourglass is cruelty-free, but is owned by Unilever – a company that tests on animals. I made the decision for myself to try to only purchase from cruelty-free companies. However, I personally am also comfortable supporting a brand that is cruelty-free even if the parent company tests on animals, in the hope that it will send a message to the parent company.
Alba Botanica Hawaiian Coconut Milk Shampoo
What is it? This shampoo “provides intense moisture to renew and seal in hydration to strengthen the hair cuticle to make it soft, smooth, manageable.”
Why do I love it? Alba Botanica has become one of my go-to brands over the last few years. It’s affordable and the products I’ve tried have worked. It can sometimes be hard to find a shampoo that doesn’t strip my hair of any moisture it might have – but this shampoo leaves it feeling clean and smooth! Also, coconut is one of my favorite scents so it feels like I’m on a tropical island 🙂 (if only!)
